You cant rename an ost file to pst and you cannot open the ost file with a different MAPI profile, it must be the same one that created the ost file. You cant change the mailbox either. The only possible solution is if you can open the ost file with the origianal MAPI profile connected to Exchange or not, then export data to a post file.
Touse the original MAPI profile it must be available of course and you must also authenticate with an account that has permission to open it. The percentage of users who will ever need an OST to PST converter is extremely small and there already are 3rd party solutions to that unusual problem. Considering how much heat Microsoft gets whenever they introduce another product/add-in that puts a little ISV out of business and the programming resources required to create/support such a tool and the fact that it won't result in any additional sales for Microsoft. I think Microsoft is content to let the ISV's take care of that small niche market. That's my take on it anyhow. In Office is there a way to convert an OST to a PST so that it can be used on another system and mounted as a personal file?
Thanks Sam It is true that Microsoft has not yet provided Ms outlook ost to pst converter tool. But it is not a very big matter. As you know Microsoft software application are very flexible. It is great feature of all Microsoft application. You can easily file format using some third party application.
For more information on ost to pst conversion visit Microsoft official solution center. Kernel for OST to PST conversion acts more like an OST reader tool that instantly reads the OST file and export into Outlook PST file.
The best feature about this tool is it makes use of advanced techniques to convert OST file to PST file and further transfers all the emails, messages and all email components in Microsoft Outlook. The tool provides complete support to OST files created with any version of MS Outlook and Exchange Server and even doesn’t require original outlook profile for OST to PST conversion. The tool can be downloaded from. Mr William Zhou CHN has mentioned good steps here to convert OST to PST file:But these steps only work when you are able to open your Outlook OST file in your MS Outlook. In case of corruption or damaged, these methods can not work and you need to repair corrupt ost file first by using scanpst/scanost, an inbuilt utility or by a third party application to. Hi, You can get PST file from an OST file, if your exchange server is up and connectivity of ms outlook with ms exchange is working properly. You can get.pst file from that configured ost file that is a good strategy.
You have to follow these steps: Go File >> Import and Export >> Export to a file >> Personal Folder File (.pst) >> Select the Mailbox Folders which you want to convert into PST format >> Provide a location to save PST file >> Click Finish This process is also called the backup pst process. You can get your ost file data into pst file format.
Thanks Isa.i was looking for the free solution from a very long time, but now you have suggested me the correct way. I followed the steps as suggested by you in live Exchange environment but now i m able to convert OST to PST file on my own. I was assuming, that above steps will also work on orphaned ost files (not able to open & access with MS Outlook) but the situation is just reverse. Finally I called a paid solution and realized why people are running for ost pst converter.
Take a Free Trial Tour: The product did commendable job. I am a bit happy, as it allows eml and msg format conversion too that was my prior need.:) Thanks for sharing the information!!! But if the.ost files are orphaned then no other way out is left for converting ost to pst files except application. Achieve the expected results after converting offline & corrupted ost file to outlook pst files.
Nothing can be better than this, i have personally experienced. The OST Integrity Check tool (Scanost.exe) is installed when you install Outlook. It is located at: drive: Program Files Microsoft Office OFFICE12.
Repair errors by using Scanost.exe • Exit Outlook if it is running. • Double-click Scanost.exe, located at drive: Program Files Microsoft Office OFFICE12. • If you have set up Outlook to prompt for a profile, the tool will also prompt you for one. In the Profile Name list, click the profile that contains the.ost file that you want to check.
If you are prompted to Connect or Work Offline, click Connect. Select the options that you want. To have the tool automatically resolve discrepancies that it finds during the scan, select the Repair Errors check box. If this check box is cleared, the tool will log the problems but not make the necessary corrections. Click Begin Scan.
Thanks LMarco System Technical Services http://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/office/OST2PST-Converter-A-Faster-444f8297. In Office is there a way to convert an OST to a PST so that it can be used on another system and mounted as a personal file? It’s very simple!!! If you able to open ost file into ms outlook, simply go: File > Import and Export > Export to a file > Personal Storage file (.pst) and put a name of pst file. As soon as you click on Export, all selected data will export into pst file format. Now if ost file is unusable or orphan or corrupt, you will not be able to open ost file and presence of 3rd party app that supports all editions of ms outlook and exchange is helpful. Apart from conversion and corruption handling, deleted records recovery with accurate result is completely supported with OST Converter app over MS Outlook 2010, 2007, 2003.
It can use to make entire process of old ost file to pst file conversion automated and get the output in 3 formats: (PST or MSG or EML). The problem is that 90% of all the 'answers' here are just promotions for company tools, not freeware utilities, and some (IMHO) likely to be spyware or malware. Without MSFT providing a tool, or recommending a few select ones, they are opening their loyal users to bad stuff. And this is not a small number of people that have this problem - 4 out of 5 colleague I asked about this have done the same - removed their exchange account and lot access to the OST file, before copying contents out to a backup or PST file.
In my case, I hade archived my email, but forgot about my hundreds of Outlook Contacts. All I need is to re-open that darn OST file, and get them moved out.
Microsoft need to make a simple way to do this. I have all the security profile files, and even on the same laptop, but cannot re-open that OST. Very frustrating.
